For Western Heritage Bank, The Place Is Here

The Paso del Norte Binational Metropolitan Area represents a culturally unique, diversified border region. It is at the crossroads of three-states and two countries, with over 2.6 million residents. 1.2 million are on the U.S. side, and approximately 1.5 million residents live just across the border. The Borderplex Metro includes Las Cruces, New Mexico; El Paso, Texas; and Ciudad Juàrez, Mexico.

The region is one of the largest international, bi-lingual, bi-cultural metropolises in the world, with key factors in place for a successful financial services entity:

  • El Paso is home to corporate headquarters of 21 companies on the Hispanic 500 List.

  • Fort Bliss, Texas is an integral part of the region. With the adjacent White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) just east of Las Cruces, the complex extends 183 miles to the north. The Bliss/WSMR area is the world’s largest military installation (over 7,100 sq. miles) and has nearly tripled its active duty population to almost 29,000 troops over the past seven years. In addition, the U.S. Air Force began moving its primary security training mission to Ft. Bliss, resulting in an estimated 10,000 airmen each year.

  • Las Cruces, New Mexico is the county seat of Doña Ana County, home to over 112,000 people. It is the second largest city in New Mexico and the largest in southern New Mexico.

  • Las Cruces is the corporate headquarters of Spaceport America as well as Virgin Galactic.

  • Juàrez, Mexico is the seventh largest manufacturing center in North America.

  • 75 companies from 21 nations (other than North America) employ over 60,000 people in Juàrez alone; many of these companies have a presence in El Paso or Las Cruces.

  • There are five ports of entry into El Paso from Juàrez, allowing more than 22 million crossings per year.

  • Retail sales in El Paso totaled $12.8 billion in 2013, with 10-15% of those sales attributed to shoppers from Mexico.

  • These five ports facilitate $87 billion in U.S.-Mexico trade, 18% of all U.S. trade.

  • Deming, New Mexico is home to a large contingent of Customs and Border Patrol personnel.

  • A key, 24-hour port of entry is 30 minutes south of Deming.
